...from an informant we'll call Brent Wood that the previously unidentified peeps who, in late January 2014, shelled out $8.45 million for movie actor, producer and Emmy-winning chat show host Ricki Lake's plantation style single-story sprawler in L.A.'s quietly posh Brentwood 'hood was none other than actor/producer (Spider-Man, The Spoils of Babylon, Good People, Pawn Sacrifice) Tobey Maguire and his Tinseltown-bred jewelry designer wife, Jennifer Meyer Maguire.
As the more avid of celebrity real estate watchers amongst us already know the 5-6 bedroom and 5.5 bathroom house has a bit of celebrity pedigree: Miz Lake bought the 5,226 square foot house in 2002 for $5.6 million from sitcom superstar Courtney Cox (Friends, Cougar Town).
The purchase isn't, perhaps, so surprising since Mister and Missus Maguire have hankered to set down roots in the 'hood for quite some time. Back in early 2008 Mister and Missus Maguire paid exactly $10 million for a vacant, .93-acre residential lot on the just a few doors down and across the street from the house they (allegedly) just picked up from Miz Lake. As far as this property gossip knows, the Maguie's parcel remains vacant and undeveloped.
Once upon a time, Mister Maguire owned a low-slung contemporary crib on Thrasher Avenue in the so-called Bird Streets neighborhood high above the Sunset Strip that he sold nearly seven years ago for $10,800,000 to—according to wildly well-connected real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak—Wal-Mart heiress Paige Laurie Dubbert and her husband Bo. The young couple moved temporarily into a nearby house owned by his Hollywood b.f.f. Leo DiCaprio but for the last bit of time the Maguire were shacked up in a $9 million contemporary rental residence in the Riviera section of Pacific Palisades.
Miz Lake, her children and—one presumes—her new-ish second husband, jewelry designer Christian Evans, decamped, again according to Yolanda, to a hippy-dippy multi-million dollar house in the mountains above Malibu.
